Xplor is an adventure park with various activities such as zip-lining, amphibious vehicles and exploring underground rivers. It is located 3.5 miles south of Playa del Carmen, Mexico. Although you can easily spend the entire day at this park, we spent a couple of adventure-packed hours here with our son who is 5 years old.

Xplor is part of the Xcaret group of eco-adventure parks. The admission to these parks can be quite pricey. However, we were lucky enough to have our admission to the park included in our accommodation package with Hotel Xcaret (hotel review coming soon)! This is an amazing deal for families who want to visit multiple parks during their vacation. We were able to spend a few hours at XPLOR and leave before our son was overly tired.

Upon arriving at the park, it takes a while to get oriented with the layout. There is a heart in the middle of the park that all of the activities surround. This is also where the lockers and change rooms are located. There is a large board that indicates the wait times for all the activities which was helpful for choosing which activity to do first.

Underground Rafts

The first activity we choose to try was rafting the underground river. As a word of caution, do not attempt this activity if you are claustrophobic. You have to navigate a relatively long trail in the caverns which made even me a little bit nervous! The beautiful rock formations and caverns filled with stalactites and stalagmites make the trek worth it!

There are single and double rafts available that must be maneuvered with hand paddles. These are simply small paddles tied to your hands. If bringing a waterproof camera you may want to bring a head-mount. I didn’t and trying to adjust the view of the camera was incredibly difficult with paddles on both hands!

XPLOR’s Amphibious Vehicle Track

The second activity we tried was driving the amphibious vehicle. This was a fun, self-guided trek through the jungle. I will again give a word of warning to anyone claustrophobic. You drive through multiple caves that are very dark and have narrow passageways. This was a fun activity where you are free to go at your own pace as there are several places where faster vehicles can pass.

Hammock Splash Zip-line

The final activity we tried was called the hammock splash. This combines, hammocks, zip-lines and cenotes into one fun activity! There is a much larger zip-line course within the park, but this small one was a good compromise for our young son.

The hammock splash involves a short, two-course zip-line. You simply sit in a hammock and are sent on your way. You don’t have to worry about trying to slow down at the end since you land in a cenote! Be prepared as the water is very cold!

Our hammock splash experience!

We had a really fun family adventure at Xplor park in Mexico. Although we only spent a couple of hours at the park, we were able to do the 3 activities we had set-out to do! There are other activities at this park, with some amazing zip-line courses, but we felt our son was a bit too small for these. Hopefully we can return in a few years to experience the all that XPLOR has to offer!
