While on our travels, one of the best things is having a mimosa at breakfast. It just makes it feel like a real holiday! That being said, I’ve been known to indulge in a mimosa or two while at home as well! They do taste just as good home-made!
Ingredients for a Perfect Mimosa
For a classic Mimosa you will only need two ingredients: orange juice and champagne or sparkling wine. I’ve been told that to make a perfect Mimosa you should use fresh-squeezed orange juice. Let’s be realistic folks, I just don’t have the time or patience to squeeze enough oranges for juice in the morning. I like to use the “Simply” brand of orange juice, but any brand will do!
As for the other half of the equation, you can use any champagne or sparkling wine that you desire. I like using Spumante Bambino because I can get a small bottle. I don’t generally drink champagne unless it’s in a mimosa so getting a small bottle cuts back on waste. Especially since the carbonation is lost after a few days.
The Perfect Mimosa Recipe
A classic Mimosa recipe calls for equal amounts of orange juice and champagne or sparkling wine. While we think this ratio tastes the best, you can experiment with different ratios to find your ideal mix.
When making a mimosa, you should always add the champagne or sparkling wine first before you top with orange juice. This allows the bubbles to settle down first and will prevent creating a mess at the top of the glass. Pouring in the orange juice is enough to mix the drink. Don’t stir or you will lose the carbonation.
How to Make a Batch of Mimosas
Planning a brunch with a group of people and want to make a batch of this breakfast drink? No problem! You can make mimosas in a pitcher right before the guests arrive. Just remember not to do this too far in advance, because you will lose some carbonation and the mimosas might taste a little flat.
You could also make the mimosas one by one as it really doesn’t take that long to make! Remember that this cocktail is best served well chilled. Keep everything in the refrigerator until your guests arrive. You could also add some orange slices for a fancier look!
Want to try a Mimosa with a Twist?
The combination of orange juice and champagne is a classic breakfast treat, but did you know that there are lots of variations for mimosas? Here are two of my favourites.
- Add a tablespoon of Grand Marnier to the champagne and orange juice. This adds a slightly different flavour and makes for a delicious drink!
- Replace the orange juice with a different fruit juice. For example, try using pear nectar to create a green pear cocktail!
