Cancún’s beaches are arguably some of the most beautiful beaches in North America. Cancún is one of Mexico’s most popular resort areas. Located on the Yucatán Peninsula, in the state of Quintana Roo, Cancún’s hotel zone is spread out across a 15 mile long sandbar. It is connected to the mainland by causeways on both ends. One road, Kukulkan Boulevard, connects the numerous resorts, restaurants, shopping plazas, and bars.
Cancún’s hotel zone is a main tourist area. For those of us who don’t like large crowds this may not seem like an ideal destination for a vacation. The first thing that pops into my mind when I hear main tourist area is large numbers of people and overcrowded beaches – not my idea of fun. However, I was pleasantly surprised by our visit several years ago.
We traveled during the month of April and found that both the resort as well as the beach were not overcrowded at all. We stayed at the Grand Oasis which is only about 25 minutes from Cancún’s International Airport.
The water was the most amazing blue colour and the sand was super fine. There are a variety of water sports that can be enjoyed such as swimming, windsurfing, jetskiing and parasailing to name a few. If you prefer to relax then the beaches are a perfect place to suntan, sit and read, or take a leisurely stroll.
