If you’re looking for a spring getaway that keeps the whole family happy, let me point you straight to Boyne Mountain, Michigan. We enjoyed a family trip there, and I can honestly say it checked every box: fun for the kids, relaxing for the grown-ups, and plenty of options to keep everyone entertained, even when Michigan’s spring weather likes to keep you guessing!

Why Boyne Mountain in Spring?

You might hear “Boyne Mountain” and immediately think skiing—and sure, it’s a winter hotspot. But spring at Boyne Mountain reveals its own charm. The snow starts melting, but the fun doesn’t stop. In fact, it gets even more varied. You’ve got the best of both worlds: lingering snow for late-season fun and budding greenery that hints at summer.

All accommodations include complimentary Wi-Fi, flat-screen smart TVs, and access to resort amenities such as the indoor/outdoor pool, fitness center, and spa facilities.

First Stop: The Heated Outdoor Pool

Boyne Mountain’s heated outdoor pool was an unexpected highlight. The water is kept at a toasty temperature, so even on those chillier spring days, you’re comfortable. We spent hours there, alternating between the pool and the outdoor hot tubs. Pro tip for enjoying Boyne Mountain in spring: Go for an evening swim. The pool lights up, and you get this magical combo of crisp spring air and warm water.

Hay Rides & Campfires: Pure Michigan Moments

One of the most memorable parts of our trip was the afternoon hay ride. Riding through the resort grounds at Boyne Mountain in spring and breathing in that fresh air was a family favourite. At Boyne Mountain Resort, hayrides offer a charming way to experience the resort’s scenic beauty. These rides provide a leisurely tour through the resort’s picturesque landscapes. The hayrides are a family-friendly activity and often feature seasonal themes to enhance the experience. It’s recommended to check the resort’s event calendar or contact the Adventure Center for the most up-to-date information on scheduling and availability. The hay ride ended at a communal campfire area, where we roasted marshmallows and made smores.

Avalanche Bay Indoor Waterpark: Rain or Shine Fun

Spring weather in Michigan can be unpredictable, but that’s where Avalanche Bay comes in. This massive indoor waterpark is right on the property and is the place to go when you need to burn off some energy (or escape a rainy day). We spent a full day there, and it felt like a mini tropical escape!

Avalanche Bay Indoor Waterpark at Boyne Mountain Resort is open year-round. Spanning 88,000 square feet, it holds the title of Michigan’s largest indoor waterpark and maintains a comfortable 84°F temperature, making it an ideal destination regardless of the season.

The park features a variety of attractions. Adrenaline seekers can experience the Big Couloir, a 360-degree extreme body slide. For those seeking a more relaxed experience, the Lazy River offers a gentle float through the park, while the Kitz Pool provides a safe and fun environment for toddlers and young children.

Beyond the water attractions, Avalanche Bay includes a multi-level arcade with over 50 games. Dining options within the park, such as the Snack Shack and Après Ski Pub were convenient to grab some food and beverages during our visit.
