This is a family review of Montana’s Restaurant in Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario. We decided to try this restaurant because it is relatively new to the city. It is located on Foster Drive and ideally situated beside the St. Marys River. I imagine this will be a great place to enjoy the patio in the summer months. However, being March, the warm and less snowy interior suited us just fine!
First Impression
Our first impression upon walking into the main dining room was positive. The music was a comfortable volume and the restaurant itself was quite clean and tidy. We were greeted enthusiastically and shown to our seats without having to wait.
Kids Menu
The kids menu had quite a few options, although not the “bacon and fries” my son initially asked for. He definitely takes after his father when it comes to his infatuation with bacon!
Main Menu
The main menu has a lot of options and I would recommend arriving hungry because the portions are quite large! There are many choices including a variety of appetizers, ribs, steak, burgers, chicken and pasta.
Must-Try at Montana’s
We decided to try out the deep-fried pickles as a starter to share as a family. It was funny to see the confusion on our son’s face when we told him they were pickles. His reply: “But they’re hot and they’re not green”! Needless to say, after trying them, both kids gave them a thumbs up!
If you want to try a variety of items, we would suggest ordering the BBQ platter for two. It came with shrimp, ribs, pulled pork, smoked chorizo sausage, fries, coleslaw and cornbread. They will ask what kind of sauce you would like on the ribs but we would suggest requesting them without sauce. That way you can sample the 4 signature BBQ sauces available at each table. The chipotle honey was our favourite!
