Recently, I had a lovely solo trip to Saginaw where I had the opportunity to stay at the Four Points by Sheraton. This hotel was reasonably priced and well maintained. As with most places, there are always pros and cons. Happily, the pros outweighed the cons for this short hotel stay!
The View
I’m not sure if many people can relate to this, but when I walk into a room one of the first things I see is not the room itself but what’s outside the window! I’m a sucker for nice views and I absolutely love balconies. Although this hotel did not have any rooms with balconies, I was pleased with the view from my window. I would much rather look at a natural setting than at a busy parking lot, which I must say has been my view at far too many places!
The Room
My room at the Four Points Saginaw was spacious and comfortable. While travelling solo, I like the luxury of sleeping in a King-sized bed all by myself! There was also a comfy sofa chair with a handy moveable table. This was a comfortable option when working on my laptop.
The room also came equipped with a large desk and chair, flat-screen TV, and lots of storage space. There was a small coffee machine with coffee and tea. Two things the room did not have were a fridge or microwave, which was a disappointment. There was no place to keep refreshments cold or to warm up leftovers from the restaurant! There may have been an option to request these items but I didn’t inquire about it.
The bathroom was relatively small but clean. Shampoo, conditioner and body wash was provided in dispensers. This is a great way to cut back on waste. Other toiletries provided were hand soap, body lotion, and make-up removing wipes.
Hotel Amenities at Four Points Saginaw
The Four Points Saginaw has some great amenities outside of the room. The workout room is huge with a great selection of machines and weights. What I liked about this room is the fact that it is open 24-hours, so there are no constraints for when you feel the need for a workout!
I was really impressed by the indoor/outdoor pool. It’s a single pool both inside and outside, where you swim underwater to get from one side to the other. There is also a small circular hot tub beside the indoor portion of the pool. I was tempted to try them both out, but I was put off by all the windows. The wall separating the pool room from the main lobby was all glass so that everyone checking into the hotel or walking in/out of the hotel could see you swimming! I don’t think that I was the only one put off by this as I did not see a single person use the pool throughout my entire stay.
Uno Chicago Grill
The Uno Chicago Grill Restaurant is attached to the Four Points Saginaw. This gives you the option to dine-in or order room service. I ordered room service one evening and was pleased with the salad and seafood dip that I ordered. Be forewarned that portion sizes are large and, given that there is no fridge in the room, leftovers go to waste.
Berry & goat cheese salad Seafood dip with crustini
The restaurant is pub-style with seating at the bar or tables. I decided to try breakfast at the restaurant on my last day and I was not disappointed. Who doesn’t like a full American breakfast? It was delicious and provided the energy I needed for my 4-hour drive home! You can access the full menu here.
Final Verdict
The Four Points Saginaw was a nice hotel and provided good value for the price. Having an on-site restaurant was a nice convenience. However, the lack of privacy in the swimming pool area was a drawback for me. Based on my experience I would recommend this hotel for your stay in Saginaw, Michigan!
